Across the 2021 and 2022 Chinese New Year seasons, DBS and POSB turned banking engagement into a shared island-wide adventure. The 2021 campaign connected real DBS PayLah! merchant payments, location-based zodiac hunting, and cash rewards at national scale; the 2022 return expanded that foundation with new challenges, power-ups, animated storytelling, and competitive clan gameplay.
For the 2021 season, I helped build an island-wide map hunt spanning more than 34,000 Gates of Fortune. Players searched for 60 combinations of the 12 zodiac animals and five elements, completed collection challenges, and redeemed cash Angbaos into their DBS PayLah! wallets. Eligible PayLah! merchant transactions became Oranges — power-ups that improved a player’s chances of capturing escaping zodiacs.
The 2022 season evolved the experience on Vue 3 and TypeScript with PixiJS-powered mini-games, richer animation and sound, an extended challenge and reward system, referral boxes, Golden Hour events, and multiple tactical power-ups. Zodiac Quest grouped players into 12 birth-year clans and tracked their progress on a real-time leaderboard, turning a solo location hunt into a shared competitive race.
Across the two seasons, the campaigns offered a combined S$330,000 in cash prizes, while the 2021 edition drew more than 49,000 players before the expanded 2022 return. The wider #HuntYourZodiac campaign was recognised by Marketing Interactive for Best Digital Integration and Best Use of Gamification.
